Sustainability at EKOE
For us, sustainability means going beyond the buzzword. It means no shortcuts, or greenwashing, just safe, thoughtful clothing made with care. Our UPF50+ sarongs are the first of their kind: free from synthetics, stitched with cotton thread, printed with non-toxic dyes, and tested to protect. Because sun-safe should mean skin-safe and planet-safe too.
How are our sarongs different?
Fabric & Fiber:
- Made from 100% bamboo lyocell: breathable, silky-soft, degradable.
- Stitched with 100% cotton thread: zero synthetic fibers.
- OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 approved fabric: tested safe for over 1,000 harmful substances
- Printed with low-impact, GOTS-certified, AZO-free dyes: safe for babies and sensitive skin.
Sun Protection:
- UPF50+ rated: blocks over 98% of harmful UVA and UVB rays
- Independently tested by SGS, a world leader in testing and certification, to meet European standard BS EN 13758-1:2002 + A1:2006.
- Doesn’t wash out or expire built-in protection without any coatings or sprays
Planet + People:
- Absolutely no polyester, nylon, or performance coatings like PFAS.
- No greenwashed “recycled plastic” or synthetic blends that pollute or can’t biodegrade.
- Ethically made in India with our trusted manufacturing partner, SUVETAH.
- We only work with partners who share our values: fair wages, no child labour, safe working conditions, and full transparency from fiber to final stitch.
Why we do it:
Most sun-protective clothing is made from polyester, nylon, or plastic fabrics that shed microplastics into our oceans every time they're washed. Microplastics have already found their way into our oceans, our food chain, and even our bodies, and the risks they pose are only just beginning to be understood.
At EKOE, our mission is to create clothing that's UPF50+, skin-safe, plastic-free and planet-conscious. Every decision we make from the fibres we choose to the dyes we use is rooted in transparency, thoughtful design and respect for nature.
And we believe real change doesn't come from exclusivity. It comes from accessibility and affordability. We're here to make safer, more sustainable options available to more people because protecting your skin and the planet shouldn't be a privilege.
